1. Proximity to Yosemite
Oakhurst is the closest major town to Yosemite National Park’s South Entrance, making it an ideal home base for exploring the park without sacrificing the comforts of civilization. • Many areas in Madera County and Yosemite are home to black bears. Always view wildlife from a safe distance, never feed or approach wild animals, and make sure to not leave any food or scented items in your vehicle, especially when visiting Yosemite National Park and Sierra National Forest.
