Hi friends! When it comes to planning a Yosemite National Park adventure, picking out the right lodging is one of the most important aspects of your trip preparation, and the Southern Gateway has a wide array of incredible options. With charming towns like Oakhurst, Bass Lake, and Coarsegold, visitors will be delighted to find the perfect hotel, cabin, or rental property for their unique travel itinerary, budget, and interests. Over the past several months, I’ve taken multiple trips up to Yosemite via Highway 41 in partnership with Visit Yosemite | Madera County, staying at 6 different lodging options that I’d highly recommend for a memorable mountain vacation. Join me below as I share my Complete Hotel Guide for Yosemite’s Southern Gateway.

Where Should I Stay When Visiting Yosemite?

This is a question I get asked daily, and it’s a great one! There are so many great options, and your decision can make quite an impact on your Yosemite experience. There are many options available outside other park entrances, as well as lodging inside Yosemite, however I personally love staying in the Southern Gateway. For visitors traveling up from Los Angeles and other parts of Southern California, it’s the most direct route to the park. Oakhurst, Bass Lake, and other communities in Madera County provide quick access to Yosemite’s southern highlights, like the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, as well as other Sierra Nevada adventures outside the park boundaries.

Below you’ll find 6 of my favorite places to stay in Yosemite’s Southern Gateway, each with unique offerings...
