History

Located southwest of Bishop near the small town of Aspendell, Lake Sabrina was named for Sabrina Hobbs, whose husband, Charles M. Hobbs, was the first general manager of the Nevada California Power Company. This man-made lake is situated 9,130 feet above sea level and was created when the NV/CA Power Company dammed the middle fork of Bishop Creek in 1907 to supply consistent water flow to the hydraulic power plants.

Along with magnificent views, you can grab a bite to eat at the café or get supplies at the the Lakes Sabrina Boat Landing general store before heading out on your adventure. Open all season through Labor Day, fishing boats can be rented here along with canoes, rowboats and pontoons, making for a wonderful day out on the water.

Hiking

Lake Sabrina is popular with day hikers and backpackers alike…popular trails lead to Blue Lake, Dingleberry Lake, and Moonlight Lake (just to name a few). Day hiking along the Sabrina Lake Trail doesn’t require a wilderness permit, but it is important to always plan ahead when venturing into the wilderness here – even for short day hikes. Backpackers can enjoy a break at the nearby Sabrina Campground. Trail quotas apply from May 1 to November 1 and wilderness permits are required year round for overnight backpackers.
