May faith be the bridge we cross as we fix our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen.

I hope you had a wonderful Fourth of July filled with yummy food, fireworks and all the things you enjoy! I spent part of the day visiting one of my favorite local road trip pit-stops - Gaviota Vista Viewpoint located less than two hours north of Los Angeles.

I discovered this hidden gem back when my husband and I had first started dating. We were returning from Morro Bay after a daytrip when he pulled off the southbound 101 freeway and introduced me to this secluded spot.

Gaviota Vista Viewpoint is located just south of Arroyo Hondo Preserve. The preserve is open to the public every first and third weekend of the month. Often referred to as the "jewel of the Gaviota coast", there are multiple hiking trails that can take you through different ecosystems.

Gaviota Vista Viewpoint overlooks a large steel Union Pacific railroad bridge where you can watch the trains zoom by. The beautiful Old Coast Highway Bridge was built in 1918. It stands 88 feet tall and spans over 500 feet across. There is also a steep staircase that leads down to Arroyo Hondo Beach and the edge of the Pacific Ocean.

I've always wanted to put up my rig on the bridge, and this week I finally had the opportunity. It was wonderful to enjoy the sea breeze while spinning around in my lyra and reflecting on the many wonderful memories I've made here over the years while traveling with Nate.

This little spot is a perfect pull off if you need to stretch your legs while road tripping. It's also a great place to take a moment and enjoy the vast beauty of the Pacific coast. Just be aware there are no facilities here – no restrooms, not even a trashcan. So please do your part and pick up after yourself when you visit this lovely area.

What are some of your favorite hidden spots?
