Corriganville Movie Ranch is one of my (many) favorite local hideaways. You'll probably see this park pop up on my blog regularly here and here) because this local gem boasts such fun history.

The ranch, purchased by a Hollywood stuntman in 1937, has filmed hundreds, if not thousands, of movies and TV shows starting in the 1940s. Everything from the Lone Ranger to Star Trek has filmed here. Cowboy stars including Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and John Wayne often filmed at this unique location that featured a barn, stables, jail cell, caves, lake, cliff, waterfall and underwater bunker.

The ranch was open to the public for stagecoach rides, boating and celebrity sightings on weekends until 1965 when Bob Hope purchased the property.

Unfortunately multiple severe fires destroyed virtually all of the ranch structures between 1970 and 1980.

In 1988, 190 acres of Corriganville Ranch were purchased by the city of Simi Valley for use as a regional park. Now named Corriganville Park, you can visit the concrete and brick foundations that served as popular filming locations in Hollywood's golden age.

Aside from a glimpse into Hollywood history, there are many hiking trails that provide stunning views of the Simi hills and Santa Susana Mountains. You can even hike up to the 118 freeway and cross through a tunnel to the hills above.

What places do you visit that take you back in time?
